Building Beyond In Public

At Beyond we made the decision during our early planning sessions that we want to build our company in public.

Beyond is born from the belief that human-to-human connection is most valuable. Most trustworthy. Sharing and social connection is in our DNA.

So it's natural that we believe that being open, and sharing how we build the company, should be at the centre of who we are as well.

We believe that we should be as close to the users as possible if we expect to create a product that is valuable for them. So, sharing with the community is one way for us to stay close to the humans who we want to empower with our product.

Building a company in public can mean many things, so what does it mean for us?

Well, we think it makes sense to share the stuff that readers will find valuable. Here's what we think that is:

  • The technical build of our product → Where are the challenges? How do we overcome them? What's upcoming?
  • Product → How do we better understand our users? How do we shape and develop our product strategy? How do we measure the success of what we're shipping?
  • Company → Our decisions, our culture, our values, and our beliefs. How do we build processes and operations? How do we build a successful company, beyond the product?
  • Traction and Growth → Numbers! How we run experiments and figure out what works. Lessons, and outcomes.

While we are excited to share our journey, there will naturally be things that we explicitly can't and won't share. Anything that is personal, relates to a specific person, is sensitive, or might harm someone
